In this first episode of our year-long journey through the Bible, Sammy Tippit explores the breathtaking opening of Scripture—Genesis 1:1–25. From the first words, “In the beginning, God created,” we see a universe bursting into existence at the command of an all-powerful, all-wise Creator.

Genesis 25:34–26:9 continues the powerful story of Jacob and Esau—a family torn apart by deceit, jealousy, and favoritism, yet held together by God’s redeeming grace. Though sin brings division and pain, God’s purposes never fail.

Genesis 25:19–26:33 reveals the inner spiritual battle between the flesh and the Spirit, as seen in the lives of Isaac, Jacob, and Esau. Fear, impulsiveness, and deception show how easy it is to follow the desires of our fallen nature, while God’s grace and guidance offer restoration and blessing.

Tim Conway reflected on life before fame and his legendary dentist sketch. The late comedic legend spoke with fellow comedian Conan O’Brien about growing up, what he intended to do before show business and one of the funniest skits in television history. In terms of comedic television, it will be hard for anyone ever to top The Carol Burnett Show. The program is absolutely legendary, with clips of the show still making people burst into uncontrollable bouts of laughter decades after it ended its run on television. I challenge you to watch one of the show’s many skits and not burst out laughing at least once.

One of the main reasons the show was and is so beloved is because of its all-star cast. Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman and Vicki Lawrence are a heck of a talented lineup. Now, while the show was named after Carol, it was arguably Tim, another cast member, who stole the show most often. Anytime he was in a skit, you just knew something deliriously funny was not too far away.

While being interviewed by Conan O’Brien, Tim shared details about his life growing up in Northwest Ohio and how he originally wanted to be a jockey before show business got in the way.

Then, Tim shared some tidbits about the legendary dentist sketch, in which Harvey completely loses it, pretty much from the get-go. Tim, playing the dentist, accidentally injects himself with Novocain on several occasions, causing parts of his body to go to sleep.

Unbelievably, Tim mentioned that during his time in the Army, that exact thing happened to him when he went to see a dentist. That would have been more than a little frightening. The Carol Burnett Show version is a lot funnier, I’m sure.

Be encouraged in Christ by these Scriptures about healing

Genesis 21 celebrates the miraculous birth of Isaac, a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness and the fulfillment of His promises. Even when circumstances seem impossible, God remains true to His word.

Everyone has something that results in them feeling anxiety. Likely, if people were being completely honest, multiple things cause individuals to feel this way. Some may have a fear of tight, enclosed spaces, needles, heights (me) or even flying. Those are all common things.

Sadly, the list of fears does not stop there. Additionally, many other things can induce fearful, apprehensive feelings, which are likely to make people break out in a cold sweat. For instance, people may believe that, for whatever reason, they are inadequate and unworthy of love or of the position or job that they are in. They might question their ability to do this or that and have an incredible fear that others will discover how they are lacking in one way or another.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Candace mentioned that she has a big fear that she will be found “not good enough” or “smart enough.” Candace added that a “fear of failure is always, always running in my mind.”

However, despite her fears, she manages to push through every one of those things that cause her great anxiety and adds how she can do that every day. She puts her faith and trust in God, understanding that through Him she is able to do all things.

“I know I’m not the smartest person in the room,” she said. “I’m not trying to convince myself that I am; it’s not that. It’s just to say that, that God is more powerful than that, and if God has opened this door and has me here, then He can use me, no matter how intelligent or how many degrees I do or don’t have.”
