Sermon: 1665 Preparing for Persecution
Pray Over This
“But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
Ponder This
When you receive Jesus Christ, you receive suffering. You can’t say, “I want to be a Christian. I want Jesus Christ as my Lord, I want Him as my Savior, I want Him as my companion, I want His fullness, I want His grace, I want His love, but I'm not going to suffer with Him.” Jesus said, “I've chosen you out of the world.” The reason that a Christian is persecuted is for righteousness’ sake.
Following Christ and becoming like Him through the power of the Holy Spirit has caused you to look differently from the world. A Christian is also persecuted for the Lord's sake. When you begin to be changed by Christ, you will be filled with a burning, blazing, passionate love for Him that will not back up, let up, or shut up, and this world will come down on you like a hammer. The persecution will come, the pushback will happen, but when you are living for Him and changed by Him, it is always worth it.
